Buprenorphine at Columbia Addictions Center
Buprenorphine is used for opioid dependence. Buprenorphine is a semi-synthetic opioid with properties of a partial agonist and partial antagonist. The agonist property of the medication tricks the neuron-receptors in the brain into thinking that they have received opioids without making the patient feel euphoric.
The antagonist property of the medication makes it virtually impossible for other opioids to attach to the neuro-receptors or sites. What this means is that someone who uses an opioid such as heroin and is taking Buprenorphine cannot get high.
We offer 2 options for our Buprenorphine Program.
Option 1: Rapid Detox
This program includes the following:
- Initial phone interview and preparation for first visit. All clients are screened on the phone or in person. There is no fee for this screening. We will instruct you, in detail, how to prepare for your first visit. We recommend that you educate yourself as much as possible before hand.
- Initial visit with Buprenorphine Certified Physician. Physician will conduct an assessment, brief medical examination, and write you a prescription for Buprenorphine. He will also give you a list of the pharmacies that carry Buprenorphine.
- Follow-up visit with your Buprenorphine Certified Physician. The first follow-up visit will take place within the first week. The physician will check your dosage, see how you are feeling, and answer any questions you may have.
The total cost for the Rapid Detox Program is $325. The payment is due in cash, certified check, or money order.
Option 2: Buprenorphine Maintenance (6 weeks)
Program is all inclusive. All program components included in this fee.

Buprenorphine Treatment for Opioid Dependence
(heroin, methadone, pain pills)
|
Columbia Addictions Center opened our Buprenorphine program in December 2006 and is offering treatment for opioid dependence. Dr. Theodore Stephens is our on site medical doctor. He manages our medically prescribed maintenance program for dependence on heroin, methadone and pain pills.
We feel it is important that each client also attend counseling sessions to help support the treatment process. While the buprenorphine medication assists the individual in finding relief from the endless cycles of drug craving and withdrawal, the counseling groups will provide support for relapse prevention education, enhanced social and life skills and an improved quality of life overall.
Please call 410-730-1333 and speak to Melinda for more information about the buprenorphine program.
