Mental Health Evaluation

(teen or adult)

At CAC, we offer mental health evaluations for both adults and teens.  Many of the clients coming for mental health evaluations, however, are teenagers being brought in by concerned parents.  As a parent, we can see that our teen is struggling or that their behaviors have become erratic.  With the issues facing today’s teens, they sometimes turn to self-destructive behaviors as a way of coping with difficult times.  These behaviors may include self-injury, substance use or eating disorders, or other risky behaviors.

Ask yourself the following questions about your teen:

  1. Has your teen been suspended, expelled or had a recent drop in grades?

  2. Has your teen been verbally abusive?

  3. Has your teen lost interest in productive, enjoyable activities such as sports or hobbies?

  4. Has your teen become depressed or withdrawn?

  5. Has your teen been in trouble with the law?

  6. Do you find yourself carefully picking your words so as to avoid fits of rage or a verbal attack?

If you are answering ‘yes’ to any or several of these questions, our staff will schedule a mental health evaluation to help assess the immediate issue, and to reveal underlying issues such as anxiety, depression or attention deficit disorder.  The counselor will typically meet with the parents first, then the teen.  The counselor will then bring the family together at the end of the session to discuss possible treatment options.  This will usually be scheduled as a 90 minute family session.
