Anger Management

A majority of people learn to manage anger in healthy constructive ways. Others struggle with being unable to express anger directly and, instead, let it build up. Yet, even others respond inappropriately when responding to anger by becoming both physically and verbally abusive.

We here at Columbia Addictions Center understand anger can be a causative factor in relation to alcoholism, drug abuse, depression, anxiety, anti social behavior, self destructive behaviors, and unsatisfying relationships, both personally and professionally.

Our approach is designed to help the client not only understand his/her anger, but also, to develop strategies to manage anger effectively. Through a process of both group and individual therapy, the will learn:

  • Where feelings of anger originate and how to cope with anger
  • Gain a better understanding of the connection between anger and other emotional states.
  • How anger management can assist recovery from mental health of substance abuse disorders.
  • Development of positive coping strategies.
  • Raise your level of self-awareness and increase one’s comfort in dealing with others.

We strongly recommend and encourage individuals who are experiencing anger that is causing difficulty in their lives to seek professional help.
