All individuals referred to our center are initially seen by one of our professional licensed staff members who carefully evaluate and diagnose an individual's presenting problems.
As part of the evaluation process, we conduct a DWI/Substance Abuse Assessment. To learn what to expect, please click here.
A number of treatment programs are available. For example:
- A 6-week alcohol and drug education group is available for those assessed as "social drinkers". This group meets weekday evenings and/or on Sunday mornings.
- A 26-week treatment group is available for those with a more serious substance abuse addiction. Many of our clients also enter our intensive out-patient treatment program. Because we are available seven days per week, we have tremendous flexibility to accommodate persons who may need support several times per week.
Typically, an individual who enters the Intensive Treatment Program, is on a "step-down level of care", meaning once they achieve some level of sobriety and confidence in their recovery program, they may start to decrease the level of involvement in structured groups.
Many patients graduate to the Relapse Prevention Program. This is a program to help a specialized group of people who have achieved significant clean time, and want relapse prevention tools to help them stay clean.
Individual, marital and family therapy is also available as needed. Our policy is to assist with the families of those suffering with addiction problems.
The education and treatment programs at Columbia Addictions Center have been approved and licensed by the State of Maryland Department of Health and Hygiene, Howard County States Attorney Drug Diversion program, the Motor Vehicle Administration and the Howard County Health Department.
